#ComeDineWith Three Mobile – tempting tapas with Jenius Social

A couple of weeks ago, we teamed up with Three Mobile to host a tapas masterclass cooking event, #ComeDineWithThree (see what we did there?). Along with a few lovely bloggers, we had a go at making – and then sampling – some of Spain’s most delectable dishes. And, let me tell you, there were worse ways we could have spent a Sunday evening.

We set up the event to celebrate the fact that, from April 1, you can use your phone abroad at no extra cost in Spain with Three Mobile – and what better way to learn than through doing? We met at Jenius Social kitchen in Islington and enjoyed some drinks and nibbles – and by nibbles, we mean platters piled high with cured meats, olives and Spanish tortilla – before the masterclass. Our guests of honour were lifestyle blogger Little Miss Katy, Shikha from travel blog Why Waste Annual Leave, and the delightful Kristina from Kiki’s Parlour. Each blogger was armed with either a Samsung Galaxy S5 or Samsung Galaxy Alpha so they could document the evening using a high-quality camera (the phones come with 16-megapixel and 12-megapixel lenses respectively). After chowing down on some chorizo and manzanilla olives, we were ready to crack on with the tapas class.

Andrew, the chef, was a fantastic teacher and kept things relaxed and open throughout the evening. After choosing our dishes, we got stuck into preparing our feast, helping each other along the way. We decided to create tortilla de patata (Spanish omelette) with chorizo, chorizo al vino (chorizo in red wine), marinated manchego, albondigas meatballs, asparagus wrapped in Parma ham, prawns with garlic lemon and figs wrapped in Parma ham. The snap-happy bloggers put their Samsung handsets to good use – features such as selective focus and high dynamic range allowed them to zoom in on the dishes and capture the freshness and colours of the ingredients. In particular, the vibrancy of the pomegranate and coriander looked great against the shine of the stainless steel worktops.

After an hour or so of chopping, frying, stirring, zesting, baking and battering a surprisingly large pomegranate, we were ready to enjoy the fruits of our labour. The food looked divine and everyone was clamouring for shots of the finished dishes. Every angle was explored and it turned into a bit of a photo frenzy. With candles lit, plates set and wine poured, we dined together and bonded over our efforts while sharing stories of past dining disasters and also our favourite Spanish dishes. The bloggers were really impressed by the quality of their photos and were able to store the images on a memory card to look back on and remember how much they had achieved.

It was an absolute pleasure to host such an event with Three Mobile – celebrating Spain through some of the country’s finest cuisine definitely gave it the recognition it deserved. I will most certainly be clogging my social feeds with #holidayspam the next time I go to Spain – the food is just too good to not shout about.
